My Weaving _ by Isaac (12)  my lockdown hair-braiding _ by Precious (16)  my Quilling _ by Eleanor (14)

                                                    * Congratulations to Precious (16) - Hair Braiding *
Braiding has been used to style and ornament hair for thousands of years in many different cultures

around the world.  Precious tells us she learnt how to braid from her mum, who learnt from her mum..!                      She has been braiding her sisters' and mum's hair over last 2 weeks of lockdown
    -  a very time-intensive process, but we think the results look amazing!
See her short video here !

                                                 * Congratulations to Eleanor (14) - Quilling *
Thought to have originated in ancient Egypt, Quilling is an art form that uses coiled, curled, or folded
papers to create intricate patterns, textures,
&  3D designs.  Not easy!   We love this butterfly!
Has anyone ever tried this before ?   Here's some more
inspiration for you !

                                                    * Congratulations to Isaac (12) - Weaving *
Weaving cloth is one of the oldest art forms known to humankind - at least 30,000 years old!
It involves interlacing 2 different fibres to create patterned and textured cloths and is very practical -
producing clothing, rugs, blankets and even baskets & bags.

Commended! thanks to Aaliyah (10) for sending in these pictures she's been drawing of characters   from the 'Disney Descendants' movies. She tells us she loves singing and dancing to all the songs too!

BAKES &/OR CAKES

Thank you bakers for all your entries!  Below i hope you will find something you like: Let us know!
Jess & Kate had a tough job judging this round: (i) because there was such a variety of entries !
(ii) because they had to look at all these delicious baked goods but couldn't taste any of them !! ;)
They could only award 3 winners - but insisted everyone should be commended for their baking !

                                                                 Italian Biscotti Biscuits
" we would normally eat Biscotti when we go to Italy to see family, but -since holidays are cancelled
this year- i thought i'd bake these to remember all the good times we've had out there :) "

Recipes for Biscotti date back as far as the 13th Century in Italy..  Traditionally made with hazelnut
   and aniseed but these days
with a wide variety of flavours. They are hard and crunchy because they
    are 'twice-cooked'
('bis' is Italian for twice, and 'cotti' for cooked) :
Perfect to dip in your hot chocolate, tea or coffee - or to accompany a silky dessert !
 Yes please!

                        * Congratulations to Josie (15) - 'A Good Life : My Fortune Cookies' *
Fortune Cookies ?  'A crisp, sugary, folded cookie containing a paper 'fortune.'   Not content just to
predict our fortunes, Josie has gone ahead and supplied the silky dessert too !  See how
here !
Do fortune cookies date from America end-19th Century, or have a more ancient Chinese/
                                                         Japanese
history?.. Who knows!    Do these look good ?  Mmm-hmmm :)

                    * Congratulations to Aaliyah (10) - 'My 1st Chocolate Celebration Cake' *  Aaliyah says as soon as she heard about the challenge the first thing she did was ask her mum for

Join with us  on ZOOM  for  'PEACEMAKERS' :  SUNDAYS  5 - 6.30pm  @  SAYS

         PeaceMakers: our current youth-group series

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT!   ->  07/06  We looked at another modern-day  peace-stealer:

                                               anxiety- topic of the week

[ Coming Soon - key notes of this session on anxiety will be posted here ]

           IN CASE YOU MISSED IT!
->  31/05  We looked at some serious injustices of our day:
the completely unjustifiable & racist police killing of  George Floyd  in Minneapolis :

justice for floyd_black lives matter. Photo by 'peacemaker' Peter Anderson  floyd's brother _ black lives matter_ justice for floyd  no justice no peace_Bryonne Taylor_Louisville Kentucky_Black Lives Matter
archie williams _ america's got more than talent_black lives matter      black lives matter!

and the completely unjust & racist life-sentencing of  Archie Williams in Louisiana :
finally cleared by DNA tech advancements of a crime 3 people had testified 37 years ago
he was nowhere near!  We heard how he survived in the harsh prison he was sent to:
"When faced with dark times what I would do is i would pray and I would sing. This is how I got peace"
We heard from young 'peace makers' coming to terms with 3 days of rioting where they
live in Minneapolis: - their peace-making priorities in difficult and divided times; and
   - being clear: 'people matter more than things',  'black lives matter', and the sad reality that
'those meant to protect' had once again killed 'a black someone they had a duty to protect'.
"We're living in troubled times. Please don't allow yourselves to be distracted.. and please don't misunderstand:
'Black Lives Matter' recognises all lives matter - but right now black lives are the ones being taken and we need
this to end!  Asking the doctor to help fix your hurting leg doesn't mean your other bones aren't important too!
"

   We then looked at the
completely unjustifiable
sentencing and execution of Jesus by state
police and authorities in his day - and listened to his incredible words to his followers the
night before: leaving them his "gift of Peace" - peace that does not depend on happy or easy
circumstances, but is available to us even in the most troubled of times - as we live for peace.
Jesus: "in this world you will have trouble, but.."the peace treeMicah 6:8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Many people see 'peace' as something they finally 'achieve' when they reach their goals - or
when all problems are finally solved:  so then..
                   * is peace only possible for those who avoid suffering ?
                      * is peace only possible when all injustice has finally been brought to an end ?

According to Jesus' words:  troubles, or problems, are not the opposite of peace.
Even when our day to day seems full of / surrounded by these things,
we can both KNOW (receive) God's peace & support, and  GROW (outwork) that peace:
as we follow God's call to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly.
All those who follow Jesus will follow his example of being deeply moved with compassion by
any experience of injustice - including racial injustice.  We pray for and stand with all victims of
oppression and injustice and we add our voices to the cries of those around the world as we
seek the justice, freedom and equality of God's kingdom - "on earth as in heaven".

[ Part of this session will be looking at the important area of Toxic Relationships ]

How can i know peace in troubled times ?

* I often have anxious thoughts - how can i make these go away ?
          * Is peace just the absence of conflict ?   * What does it mean to be filled with peace ?
                        * How do i deal with people who are always trying to cause trouble ?
     * Can peace exist with fear ?   *  Do i have to make peace with those who've done me wrong ?
