St Alban North Harrow

Mitzvah Day - Sunday 24 November 2024

St Albans is excited to be joining with the Mosaic and Kol Chai Synagogues alongside our other friends in Churches Together and Harrow Interfaith for an afternoon cleaning up North Harrow shops. We will be starting at 2pm from North Harrow Methodist Church and returning there at 4pm for refreshment. Bring your Marigolds and a bucket, with a wallpaper scraper and a light stepladder if you have one! Please sign up below to let us know you're planning to join us so we can order the right amount of materials. If you can't access this form please email ,  or text or call 07927500744, giving your name. To find out more, go to Mitzvahday.org.uk or read more below the form.

A Mitzvah, literally interpreted, is a commandment in Jewish law. However, it is often used to define a good deed or an act of kindness which is an integral and essential part of Jewish life, and the lives of other faith and belief communities. This is the basis for Mitzvah Day.

Mitzvah Day is the world’s largest faith-led day of social action. Over 55,000 people around the world, in 41 countries, came together last year to make a difference to the community around them. Mitzvah Day aims to introduce people to social action, to their neighbours and to local charities, setting up projects which address real needs. Jewish-led, we bring together people of all faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds to volunteer side-by-side, building longstanding, genuine relationships.

After a year of unparalleled conflict abroad and division at home, we particularly wanted to participate in Mitzvah Day 2024, which has the theme ‘Stronger Together’. In North Harrow we faced the real possibility of a riot: we want to see instead a ‘Riot of Good Deeds’ across the shops in North Harrow to remove graffiti and fly stickers and do all we can to make our neighbourhood a more beautiful place to live.

By working side-by-side with our neighbours in this way, we hope people from different faith traditions will build connections, celebrate our shared values, and ultimately create a more unified and supportive society – showing that we are all Stronger Together.
